The title "psychologist" is reserved for licensed clinical psychologists. A sport psychologist is a psychologist who works with athletes. Their training is in clinical psychology, which means they tend to be someone who can help you with serious issues like depression, traumas, eating disorders, mental illnesses, etc. They have doctor-patient confidentiality and abide by HIPPA laws, which means they can't talk about your sessions with parents or coaches without your permission.
On the other hand, a sport psychology consultant (who might also use the title "mental skills coach”, “mental conditioning coach”, ect.) teaches psychological skills and techniques specific to performance enhancement. There are no HIPPA regulations, which means he or she can collaborate with your parents or coaches.
We are Sport Psychology Consultants. We teach our clients and teams skills and techniques that will stretch their abilities to perform to their highest potential and to maximize their hard work and dedication.
